Review of One Fatal Night by Helene Fermont
It’s my stop on the Love Books Group Blog Tour of One Fatal Night by Helene Fermont
With the hot stuffy days of summer upon us, concentration is at an all time low and picking up a long intense read just doesn’t appeal right now. Summer is the time for short, fast paced reads. Not being a fan of the old Rom Com, a Thriller is exactly what I was looking for.
If you can recall, I was part of the Book Blitz tour for One Fatal Night. So I was delighted when the invite for the review tour landed in my inbox. This was just the tonic needed for this time of year, when we are busy with outdoor pursuits, long days at the beach or chilling in the garden with a refreshing glass of Vino.
Do not be fooled by the mere 162 pages. Whilst this is a Novella, it has all the ingredients for a fully fledged Novel. I wont lie to you, I secretly wish it was!
This was my first foray into the written words of Helene Fermont. Let me tell you, I cant even begin to imagine how a novel written by her would read after delving into One Fatal Night. Helene is one talented lady. It is not often I come across a Novella that is not only a stand alone but is written so well.
This can be easily read in one sitting, which was a good thing as I just couldn’t put it down.
One Fatal Night is a captivating read which will not disappoint. With a well developed plot and believable characters, you will be on the edge of your seat throughout.
You will be taken on a roller coaster ride of a buried past catching up with Daniel Holt, one of the main protagonists. Mental health conditions of a daughter (Astrid) who lost her Mother at a young age and a severely unbalanced father who was subjected to abuse as a child. Secrets will be unravelled, murder at the forefront and the undertones of a blossoming romance. Yes, I know I said I’m not a fan of romance but lets face it, no story is complete without even hinting a it!
An electrifying thriller, with plot twists that will have you chewing your nails and certainly not for those with a nervous disposition.
About the Book
One woman’s quest for revenge unearths a fatal secret from her past.
Astrid Jensen holds one man responsible for her mother’s suicide, and she’ll do whatever’s necessary to get close to Daniel Holst and destroy his life – even if it means sleeping with him to gain his trust. Astrid knows he’s not who he pretends to be. But before she can reveal his dark secret, people from her mother’s past start turning up dead, and it looks like she and Daniel are next. In order to survive, she might have to put her trust in the man she has hated for so long.
Daniel Holst has worked hard to climb into Norway’s most elite and glamorous circles, and he’s not about to let any woman bring him down. But when a psychopathic killer starts murdering people from his shadowy past, he discovers that the only person who might be able to save him is the woman who wants to destroy him.
As Astrid digs deeper into her past, she uncovers secrets long buried and realizes everything she once believed is based on lies. What began as a quest to avenge her mother’s death becomes a desperate struggle for survival and leads to the truth about what happened one fatal night ten years ago—and the surprising mastermind behind the most recent murders.
